I’m a big fan of public transport. It’s the perfect way to explore new cities. But my obsession goes far beyond actually riding the trains. A transit map is like a magic reverse drawing.
Usually, when I make a drawing, I look at something complex and deconstruct it on paper into a legible visual essence of the object.
A transit system starts as an abstract drawing that is then built into a complex reality. And the map is the magic key that allows me to navigate an infinitely complex place like Tokyo or Seoul with ease and joy.
