The Berliner Ensemble Theater Company was founded by Helene Weigel and Bertolt Brecht in 1949 and moved to the Theater am Schiffbauer Damm in 1954.

In the spring of 2024 Christoph was asked to create art for the walls of the restaurant. Just a few weeks prior the floor of the main stage had been destroyed when the sprinkler system had malfunctioned.

Christoph decided to use the damaged wooden floor as the material for a series of constructivist paintings called “Berliner Assemblage”. In collaboration with the carpenters and stage painters of the theater, the floor was cut up, painted and installed on the walls.

A reference to Berthold Brecht’s “Mack The Knife”

Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear
And it shows them pearly white
Just a jackknife has old MacHeath, babe
And he keeps it, ah, out of sight
